Dyeing with persimmon juice (kakishibu)

A historic Japanese dyestuff, the fermented juice of persimmons yields a beautiful beige color that darkens with time, an unusual characteristic in a natural dye. Kakishibu is also anti-bacterial and water-resistant. The Japanese used it to dye their fishing nets, working clothes and sake sacks.
